Roman 'Turris' By Robert Vermaat
|
May 16, 2004:
See more of the opening
event. |

The tower is now ready, and the public is invited
to come and take a look. |

The Romans have taken possession of their turris! |

Ready. |

Finally! |
April 23, 2004: |

The tower is ready, but there's action to be
taken about the carpark.. |

The landing is finished, the tower is ready. |
|

The tower as seen from the Marsdijk coming from
Utrecht, looking east. |
April 17, 2004: |

The roof is ready! Jeroen and Marrit posing in
the usual spot.. |

With the roof added, the tower immediately looks
like the real thing. |

Nearly ready now. |

Compare to March 1st. |
April 12, 2004: |

Fectio at the tower, in the distance our shields.
We came to make pictures for a book. |

Below are Andreas and Jeroen. There's work being
done on the roof. |
|

The tower can now clearly be seen from afar -
this is from the Achterdijk. |
March 30, 2004: |

And another shot in this series. Marrit is posing
in front of the signpost. |

Just a month to go, and the roof is nearly there. |

Pisa? |

Skyscraper! |
March 23, 2004: |

Almost ready for the roof to be added. |

The tower against a typically Dutch sky.. |

Jeroen.. |
|
March 15, 2004: |

It's going to be a really 'Roman corner' over
here. |
|

The tower and the milestone. |
|
March 1, 2004: |

Now 8 metres high, the tower begins to look like
the real thing. |

Compared to the picture below, the tower has
grown a lot in just two days! |

My kids are awed... |

Sturdy Dutch larch. |
February 28,
2004: |

The prefab wooden beams are laid in place. |

It is already clear that the tower will have a
wide view of the surroundings. |

Already 5 metres tall, of the final 10.5. |

Work goes on even in the weekend.. |
January 27, 2004: |

Construction has started! |

A
prefab-element ready for transport. |
|
December 30,
2003: |

Just before The New Year; trees have been cut,
concrete has been laid. |

The tower will overlook a wide open space. |

The former Roman castellum rests under the field
and the trees behind the grass. |

Ready to build. |
